Calinan picked as pilot area

DAVAO City's center for agriculture-based industries will also be the testing site of the online system transaction, which will be launched by Mindanao's premier rural bank.

The area of convergence of Calinan, wherein a relative high number of people meet to conduct business and trade, has been chosen by One Network Bank to be the pilot site of their POS system application.

Starting with an initial of eight POS systems, One Network Bank will pilot test the system in various locations within the trade center of Calinan, which will include the newly- opened NCCC supermarket, other retailers, and within the bank's branch in the area.

Alex Buenaventura, president of One Network Bank, said the POS system will also be made available in all Davao branches of the bank within the next two to three months.

Soon after, the system will be accessible in all of their branches throughout Mindanao.

"The POS terminals that we will put up in Calinan are programmed to do debit purchases, utility bills payment, and tellering," Buenaventura said.

Without having the need to withdraw, transactions with retail and wholesale establishments will be cashless with the debit capability of the POS terminal.

The utility capability of the POS terminal will also ease up the queues at the Calinan branch of One Network Bank; especially as due dates come close.

"However, we have yet to finalize our agreements with Davao Light and Power Company as well as the Davao City Water District," Buenaventura said, adding that only payment for telephone bills of PLDT and mobile phone bills for Smart and Globe networks are offered.

One Network Bank maintains a positive and upbeat outlook for the remaining one and a half months of 2009, optimistic that it could match the bank's net income in 2008, which was at P240 million after taxes.
