Chesaa invites officials for basketball games

WHILE all eyes will still be on the volleyball competitions, this early, the executive committee of the Cordillera Higher Education Sports Athletic Association has opened its doors for negotiation with groups wanting to officiate the basketball games.
Chesaa 2010 president and National Institute of Information Technology and school administrator Vladimir Cayabas said they are now accepting applications from any group that want to officiate the basketball tournament, which will usher in the second phase of the competition.

"We're opening the basketball officiating to everybody as long as they submit a letter of intent," added Cayabas during Wednesday's Kapihan forum.
The ninth season of Chesaa is set to commence on September 7 with 14 schools joining the annual collegiate league dedicated for tech-voc schools in Baguio and Benguet.
Debuting this year's season are King's College of the Philippines (formerly known as Eastern Luzon College), Benguet Vocational School Colleges, and MontaƱosa National College.
They will be joined by regular members NIIT Baguio, Baguio College of Technology, Philippine Women's University, Cordillera Career Development College, AMA College, National University, Easter College, BSBT College, LNBC, Data Center, and STI College.
Events to be played in the first semester include volleyball, cheer dance, literary music, chess men and women, scrabble, billiards, dance sports, and sports quiz bee. Added events are modern dance, darts, bowling for the technical and executives, and soft ball (exhibition sport).
This year's competitions will dwell on the theme "Keeping the tradition of oneness through sports."
Basketball competition will be the biggest draw for this year's competition when it ushers in the second semester with all eyes on defending champion Baguio College of Technology gunning for another title retention bid.
Data Center College of the Philippines, Cordillera Career Development College and Easter College will also be the team to watch this year while the return of STI and National University will also spice up the competition. (Roderick Osis)
