DESPITE the tuition increases of colleges and universities every year, the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) is giving scholarships to those who cannot afford to go to college.
Ched Regional Director Freddie Bernal said that scholarships for courses in the agriculture and fisheries industries, teacher education, engineering and hotel and restaurant management are being offered to deserving students.

Ched is also giving merit scholarships to deserving students who have a high grade in the National Career Assessment Examination and in the qualifying examinations given by their agency.
Merit scholars are given P15,000 every semester for their tuition and miscellaneous fees.
Meanwhile, there is also a Tulong Dunong grant for students coming from the marginalized sector, rebel returnees, single parents and police officers with average grades. Tulong Dunong grantees are given P7,500 every semester to finance their schooling.
Ched gives more than 600 scholarships and grants every year including congressional grantees who receive P2,500 per semester to supplement their tuition needs. (JM Agreda)
