Cordillera tribes unite for art festival

MOUNTAIN tribes, Kalinga, Ibaloi and Kankana-ey, will unite for the Tam-awan International Arts Festival (TIAF) on May 17 in a grand street parade of culture, color and dance.

Chanum Foundation president, Jordan Mangosan said the tribes will be joining the parade and opening rites at the Baguio Convention Center.

Traditional rituals will be performed by elders of each of the highland tribes, Mangosan said.

The TIAF will open on the 14th of May with dance, theater, painting, potter, creative writing workshops.

The traditional cañao will open the festival at the Baguio Convention Center grounds with an art market, art shows, and literature and theatre activities with a junk art fashion show.

Representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts will be guest speakers for the various events.

The festival will be highlighted by an 8 kilometer Heritage Bike Tour to the ten top cultural spots of the city.

A fashion show showcasing the works of Dubai-based Baguio designer Eros Goze and renowned artist Kate Turalba will also be displayed. (Maria Elena Catajan)
