Councilor commends centennial commission

CITY Councilor Perlita Chan-Rondez passed a resolution commending the centennial group officers for their contributions in the centennial celebration of Baguio City.

Formed during the term of former mayor Braulio Yarano, the Centennial Commission (Centecomm) has since become an active partner of the City Government in forming policies, research and beautification and laying the ground for the improvement of Baguio beyond its centennial last year.

The Centecomm's goals include beautification of the city, preservation of green zones, establishment of centennial memorials, organization of events and activities to celebrate Baguio's centennial, recognize individuals, groups and organizations which have made an impact in the city's development and formulation of a development plan beyond 2009.

During the celebration of the centennial, many of the goals of the commission have been shown to the public.

Currently, the Centecomm remains active in planning and beautification activities. The fencing committee has implemented the project, adopt-a-fence to guard Burnham Park from vandals.

The Centecomm is headed by Dr. Virgilio Bautista, chairman; Bishop Carlito Cenzon, the vice chair and treasurer and concurrent chair of the fencing committee; Dr. Julie Cabato as the secretary and chair of the committee on ecology; architect Joseph Alabanza, chair of the committee on centennial designs; Dr. Ronald Paraan, chair of the committee on centennial markers.

They are joined by lawyer Edilberto Tenefrancia, chair of the committee on education; lawyer Benedicto Carantes, chair of committee on civic affairs; Mike Pearson, committee on marketing; Leonarda Capuyan, chair of the committee on souvenirs; and Councilor Fred Bagbagen, City Council representative.
