AN EXECUTIVE legislative meeting is necessary to address the garbage problem of Baguio City.
Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan called on the city mayor to hold an executive-legislative meeting to talk about the city’s worsening garbage problem.
Domogan said the city should focus on a permanent solution and to implement this solution as soon as possible.

“It seems there is no action to implement the permanent solution,”
Domogan observed.
He added he is willing to be involved in the meeting to give his inputs and thoughts.
Domogan was a three-term mayor of Baguio before taking on a congressional role for the city.
He said the technical working group created to oversee the garbage problem should work full-time on the permanent solution of the problem.
While looking for a permanent solution, Domogan said the council should also approve the supplemental budget for two months hauling of garbage to Capas, Tarlac.
He said the two-month period must also be spent on finishing the Materials Recovery facility for every barangay cluster.
“We need to have a permanent solution as hauling will eat up the resources of the City Government,” Domogan said.
He added the city has other special needs except getting rid of its garbage.
Domogan said that during a meeting with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the President has urged him to help complete the construction of MRFs in the city.
He said Arroyo has offered The Mansion property as a MRF site for barangays near it and has instructed Environment Secretary Lito Atienza to open the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-unused properties in the city as MRF sites.
Domogan said the National Government has also promised to give P8 million as its share to the total cost of P21 million for putting up MRFs in the city.
He added that city officials should stop finger pointing each other and instead focus on finding the elusive permanent solution.
He said the city should talk with Irisan residents to extend the retaining wall as a temporary staging point for residuals.
He encouraged all residents to participate in solving the problem by composting biodegradables in their own homes or backyards. (Visha Calventas)
