WHILE a majority of people would grab their placards and yell protests and hold fun runs and eco fashion shows, singer/composer Dong Abay chooses to tie himself to a tree.
A crowd of spectators gathered around at the sight of poet and Pinoy rock musician when he tied himself to a tree along Session Road’s busy streets Saturday afternoon.
“This is my way of supporting the Earth Day celebration and my way of protesting for the environment,” he said.
However, he clarified his act is in no connection to the environmental protests against SM’s plans of expansion which have bombarded the Baguio City the past few days.
The former Yano frontman added that he is not related to any particular group but he gives all his full support to fellow environmental activists.
Yano band popularized the songs “Banal na aso, santong kabayo,” “Senti,” and “Esem”.
Aside from his advocacies to the environment, Dong Abay also writes songs and blogs about problems and experiences every Filipino goes through. “I have a website where I write about every Filipino’s problem, about your problems” he said.
Dong Abay gave an Earth Jam free concert called “Dong Cut the Trees” at the University of the Philippines-Baguio Auditorium Saturday, April 21, as his way of taking part in the world-wide Earth Day celebration. (Bianca Pastor, MMSU Intern/Sunnex)
