THE CELEBRATION has been postponed the first time it was planned in August due to the typhoon, this postponement just paved way to the success of the 63rd Foundation Day celebration of the University of Baguio (UB) last September 18, 2011.

Established in 1946, the celebration was highlighted with the election of the University of Baguio Alumni Foundation, Inc (UBAFI) officers who will manage the affairs of the foundation in the remaining of 2011 until August 2012. Elected into office were: Dr William Occidental (president), Dr. Julita Jacaban (vp internal), Jeffrey Ordas (vp external), Cynthia Cadag (secretary), Dr Agnes Haydee Dabucol (treasurer), Mila Densen (auditor), Dr Josefina Esguerra (PRO), Eduardo Bautista and Dr Ruben Yapyap (business managers), Edward Laureano and Jorge Borja Jr (Sgts-at-arms), Ed Gamayon and Eleazar Demayo (endowment fund officers-external) and Dr Demetrio Daet and Dr Lloyd Urdoña (endowment fund officers-internal).

Guest speaker in the occasion was mayor Oscar Camantiles of Itogon, Benguet, who himself was a graduate of the University of Baguio.

In his speech, Camantiles recalled the beginnings of the university back in its conception in the minds of a couple who dreamt of a mission, which turned out to be a successful mission.

Camantiles compared this couple to the dreams of the founders of the university, Tatay Nanding and Nanay Rosa.

Camantiles said the phrases IT IS ALL UP THERE and WILL YOU BE THERE were neither thought of by accident or by chance because “they present the true defining meaning and essence of how this culture of excellence came about, how it should be understood and the culture should be lived.”

He added that these phrases are replies of the alumni to a mission, a mission to carry on for the future generations, to live up to the legacy of Tatay and Nanay.

In closing, Itogon Mayor Oscar Camantiles said, “It is my humble belief that indeed it is our turn to nurture and perpetuate this culture of excellence which our founders have dreamt of and realized for us. Si Jose Rizal noon, tayo naman ngayon and in the same way, sina Tatay Nanding at Nanay Rosa noon, tayo naman ngayon. Atin pong ipagpatuloy ang kanilang sinimulan.”

Further, he thanked the out-going officers of the UBAFI 2010-2011 namely: Dr William Occidental, Arch Benedict Loy, Dr. Julita Jacaban, Cynthia Cadag, Dr. Agnes Haydee Dabucol, Mila Densen, Jeff Ordas, Eduardo Bautista, Dr Ruben Yapyap, Leonardo Bustria, Jorge Borja, Dr Demi Daet, Atty. Remedios Reyes and Atty Joris Karl Dacawi.

Acting as Commission on elections during the selection of 2011-2012 UBAFI Officers were lawyers Joseph Rulla and Joseph Dacawi.
