TC-LTSP pursues enhancement in tour guiding skills

“THE greatest achievement is to have the opportunity to experience.” The Travel Club-League of Tourism Students of the Philippines (TC- LTSP) conducted its 2nd Tour Guiding Skills Seminar entitled “A Guide for Tour Guides: learn from Experience,” which was held last January 21, 2012 at the Café Fernando, School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Baguio.
In pursuit of the organizations objective of enhancing the tour guiding skills of tourism students, Ms. Corazon Nacionales, an accredited DOT tour guide was invited to be the resource speaker in the said seminar, to share her experiences in tour guiding. From an experience to reality, she was able to be successful in the field of tourism industry which guided her in sharing her knowledge and expertise in tour guiding. She was able to become an accredited tour guide because of her passion to travel and her desire to share time and effort to her clients. With this, she was able to instill positive attitude towards the tourism industry and inspiration to the aspiring tour guides-attendees.

The participants were given the opportunity to present what they have learned through a workshop wherein they were challenged to act as tour guides. Ms. Nacionales gave inputs and pieces of advice in each of the situations presented by the students. The seminar was held to train new generation of UB-SIHTM’s student tour guides who will be joining the annual Educational Tours as official tour guides. It serves as a training ground and an experience as they will have the opportunity to boost their confidence and enhance their knowledge in the field of tour guiding.
The TC-LTSP organization, a chapter of League of Tourism Students of the Philippines has been providing student tour guides in most activities of the University of Baguio. The event was made possible by the officers and members of TC-LTSP through the leadership of Ms. Dixie Lidawan, and the support and guidance of SIHTM’s Dean, Ms. Melanie Rulla-Saro, and the hardworking advisers, Ms. Jenelyn Mangangey-Magpatoc and Ms. Joanna Marie B. Victorio.
