THIS is the rallying point of the Baguio Special Education Center Alumni Association, headed by its president Peter Rey Bautista and incumbent principal John Chan, as it calls on its graduates for a night of fundraising, fun and reminiscing on February 18, 4-6 p.m., at the University of Baguio Square Hall.
Founders, pioneer teachers and current faculty members are actively pooling their efforts to unite all those who have been part of this prestigious educational institution to help raise funds to build a permanent and state of the art library.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
The library is envisioned to be the repository of the best book donations and collection for use of the community and its neighboring schools.
To make the night even merrier, organizers have assigned a costume for each decade: ‘60-’70 graduates, hiphop; ‘71-’80, hippy; ‘81-’90, western; ‘91-2000, Caribbean; and 2001-2012, Hawaiian.
The late principal Lolita Estepa once shared, in the 60s, special classes were organized in several schools in the city including Mabini, Lucban and Quezon Elementary Schools. It was during the latter part of 1973 that Dr. Edilberto Obana with some then Department of Education and Sports officials considered putting up the sequences at the QES to consolidate management of the facilities and equipment of the special school.
This was completed through the help of the late Dr. Telesforo Boquiren, Dr. Fe Atanacio, city officials and parents. Sped Center was opened at its present school site along Military Cut Off Rd. in 1974. The school since then has become a venue for leaders and achievers.
Everyone is invited. Registration is pegged at P150 to start off the seed funding. For more details, get in touch with Crispina Lloren, 0908-066-6442; Evelyn Basa, 0927-398-9393; Maxima Cabiles, 0916-684-4996; and Purita Verceles, 0916-794-4099.
It’s time to give back. Let’s help build Sped Center’s library. (PR)
