Little hearts in the rain

THE love of parents for their children cannot be matched by any material wealth in this world. It is because the children are a reflection of the parents. The children are the resultant substance and the incarnation of their love. The children show themselves as evidence of the parents' substantial union of love and children consider their parents as the home of love.

Love is in the air among the parents and students of Manuel A. Roxas Elementary School. The Parents and Teachers Organization of Roxas Elementary School organized a fund raising project to finance a proposed picnic grove.

Felix Bentayen, PTA president of the school, said, “During lunch time, most of the children eat their lunch on the stairs from the entrance of the school, only few students eat lunch inside the classroom. To solve this problem, the PTA planned to provide the students a place to eat by constructing a picnic grove on the upper vacant side lot of the school.”

He added, “The picnic grove is purposely for the children to have a permanent site and have a relaxing place for them to eat, talk, rest and have fun with their parents during break time.”

With this goal in mind the PTA decided to hold a money contest - the Search for Mr. and Ms. Mares 2012.

The event was successful with the help of the barangay officials and the community. Mr. & Miss MARES were crowned last February 3 at the Roxas Elementary School. It was a rainy Friday but the rain didn’t stop the event. The winners looked elegant in their suits and gowns. The parents were excited and elated watching their children do their grand entrance in the Royal Court. Atty. Benny Bomogao, an alumnus was the guest speaker.

He inspired the students by sharing his experiences. He said, “The discipline of our children today is different so parents should continue guiding their children, especially in these modern times when kids enjoy going out on movies, hanging out with friends, watching TV, the use of internet including Facebook and text messaging.”

He also advised the children to listen and follow the good teachings of their parents, to finish their studies with positivity, willpower and to make their parents proud by giving them their best.

The entourage of the reigning Mr. and Miss MARES 2012 were the following:

Mr. & Miss MARES 2012, Mark Nathaniel Mayangao and Irene Bonuan; 1st runners-up, Jomari Gambala and Mischa Grace Bozarte; and 2nd runners-up, Carl Mahonri Bentayen and Daphne Gweneth de Guzman.
