THE School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM) emerged as the overall champion in the recently concluded 2012 Summer Arts Festival of the University of Baguio.
The inter-schools event aimed at enhancing the artistic capabilities, skills and talents of the UB students. This year’s theme is about promoting the environment, dubbed as the “green advocacy.”
The five (5) categories of the competition included digital poster, digital video, T-shirt design making, board game design and bag design making. The SIHTM won four (4) awards: 1st place in Digital Poster and Digital Video; and 2nd place for T-shirt Design Making, and Board game, respectively.
The SIHTM student-representatives who participated in the 2012 Summer Arts Festival were: Roujan Valdez (digital poster); Zandra Lou Ricaroz, Aira Leigh Suguitan, Von Gregor Rosario and Valdez for the digital video category; Michelle Virador (T-Shirt design); Krizelle Panelo together with Suguitan, and Rosario (board game design making); and Ranyl Bulatao (bag design).
SIHTM student body council adviser Adrian Fernandez said that the students who joined the arts festival enjoyed the competition with less supervision. Based on the theme, students developed their own concepts and designs which makes the competition challenging yet they had fun. The key to winning is to enjoy, to compete, and to win while enhancing their artistic skills, he added.
Fernandez also said that judging from the champions’ faces they were so happy because their hard work finally paid off, they are “competitive and pressure players.” The IHTM also bagged the 2011 summer arts festival championship title last year. (Avery Rosales)
