The adventure of teen beauties

BAGUIO City National High School will celebrate its 93rd Foundation Day on October 24 with the theme: “Engaging Community towards the Centenary.”
A part of the celebration is the yearly search for Mr. and Miss Foundation. It is a teen pageant whose candidates, 13 males and 13 females, come from its four year levels and 9 annexes namely: Bakakeng, Doña Aurora, Fort Del Pilar, Happy Hallow, Hillside, Lindawan, Rizal, Santo Tomas and San Vicente.
The pageant aims to encourage candidates to become knowledgeable on the school’s history and its founders; to involve them in school and community affairs; to develop and appreciate the unique heritage and cultural values of Filipinos; to showcase the true natural beauty, talent and skills of our teens through exposure and experience; to contribute positive influence among our youth by building self-confidence and self-esteem; to promote camaraderie among parents and healthy competitions among the candidate; and to promote sports, physical health and good lifestyle.
With the help of the city government of Baguio, CEPMO, BCPO, Lizardo Bus, Inc., Easter Weaving and BCNHS Employees Association with PTA officers, the candidates had a meaningful and learning experience with their city tour, tree planting, clean up drive and courtesy call to Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
The teen candidates had a wonderful time admiring the galleries of staff miniatures, tribal and indigenous crafts which include the famous works of renowned national artist Benedicto Cabrera at the BenCab Museum.
The students toured the Bencab Gallery, Cordillera Gallery, Erotica, Sepai Gallery, Philippine Contemporary Art Gallery, Maestro, Print, the Patio Salvador, and Larawan Hall. The candidates had firsthand experience on how native indigenous and native clothing were woven in Easter Weaving. For environmental awareness, all the candidates planted trees within the Athletic Bowl and clean up drive within the school surroundings. The mayor expressed his gratitude and warm welcome to the candidates as he shared advices for all of the young candidates not to become a problem to the society. The candidates too were welcomed by the office of the Congressmen offering the graduating candidates scholarships.
Making a difference in the lives of young people is what makes life worth living. Teaching, caring and guiding young ones create a bond that connects us to them. Providing them with great opportunities to improve themselves, to learn and making them feel that they are important can make them become a successful person someday.
Great thanks to Mr and Mrs. Rodolfo “Mukyat “and Juleit Basawil of Lizardo Bis, Mr. Yasser Aris Buting, Mr. Jonathan dela Cruz, Ms. Marilyn Degay, Ms. Wilma Tadije, Ms. Jancie Awas and Carmencita Zuniga and our police escorts for their time, assistance and support in this pageant. The contest proper will be today. Good luck to all the candidates.
