-A A +AWednesday, October 31, 2012
DR. DORIS T. Allen (October 8, 1901 to March 7, 2002) is an American Psychologist who founded the Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV) in 1950. She believed that world peace could be attained by having intercultural friendship especially between children. Hence the birth of the “villages” for 11 year olds who are sent to other countries for a month long educational peace program. The first village was in 1951 in Cincinnati, USA attended by 8 countries. At present, CISV is in 65 countries and 212 cities and towns. For the past 60 years, there have been 6,000 programs for different age groups with over 240,000 participants. (Statistics and information lifted from the CISV International webpage.)
Last October 26 to 29, the Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV) Baguio Chapter held their minicamp at Paradiso Resort at Aringay, La Union. 28 participants from 11 schools here in Baguio both in the private and public attended this camp. Their theme of “PEACEtahan sa Kampo”, strengthened their love for the Filipino culture and inculcated peace in themselves and peace in their interaction with others.
A 3k and 10k CISV PEACE RUN will be held this November 4 at 5:30 am starting at Burnham Lake Drive. Cash prizes and medals await the winners. “CISV educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world.”
