THE Architect Daniel H. Burnham and the Justice George Malcolm Monuments in the city received the much need uplift last Monday when junior high school students from PHASES Learning Center armed with paint and brushes, stick brooms and dustpans and trash plastic bags swung into action last Monday. For at least half a day, the 27 student-volunteers led by no less than the school Directress Cita Bernal and classroom teachers joyfully did their “good turn” scrubbing and painting.
Mrs. Bernal said, the students wanted very much to do community service work before this year’s school break. “Certainly”, she added, “the spirit of volunteerism displayed by the students also demonstrated their love and desire to help make our city clean, green and beautiful.” In a nutshel, the activity is part of citizenship training and character building for the youth in the school.
Clean up activities of the group covered the Burnham Park Rose Garden, Rizal Park and Malcolm Square. (Nars Padilla)
