Gerco widens IMBL lead

MIKE Casuga and Nikko Go made their presence felt for Gerco as it dropped a 17-7 decision against Chamba to take a double-digit lead en route to a finals berth in the Peter Rey Cup of the International Mixed Bowling League.

Casuga, Go, Cheeno Loy, and Doris Santiago won 2-1 against Jimmy and Cathy Cabfit, John Lee, and Elmie Manansala while Tony Salcedo was edged by Albert Buting.

Gerco raked in 241.75 won points and take a 12.25 points advantage over Mixed Nuts.

Liberty made a complete reversal after a 1-6 first game loss, then edged Mixed Nuts 4-3 in the last game and took the series points to register the win over the team that got 646 from Charlie Haber last week.

It was a completely different Haber this time as he averaged just a measly 147 points per game in 1-2 loss to Joe Balaoing who came in strong with a 206,244 closers after opening with 156 to at least make sure that the high average title remains with him.

Balaoing carries a three-point advantage over Go in the race for the top individual award. He carries 182.93 points per game (ppg) clip against the 179.88 ppg of the teener.

Budget's Jimmy Uy failed to meet his average in three tries while Jun Reyes and Racquel Abubo made only one as Budget Savers got a measly 15 points playing blind but was still enough to push the team to third spot with 218.75 won points.

Pretty Pink Panthers sans the Fil-Am busy Peter Go started hotly winning 5-2 but could not sustain that run as it lost to the lowly Top 40, 8-16.

The Panthers have 214.5 won points to move down to fourth spot.

Even with Ben Diaz and Mike Ramat the only winners for Cross Stitch, the league's strongest team on paper still managed to eke a 14-10 win over Moog.

Moog even took charge of the second game, 5-2, and loss by a measly 10 points in the third for a 3-4 defeat. Cross Stitch had a two-pin advantage in the over-all series, 2,995-2,993, to take the bonus three points.

X Generation relied on the punch out of Nitz de Guzman and anchorman Oscar Aquino's spare on the foundation ninth frame to edge Wild Cards 14-10 to remain at seventh spot, behind Liberty despite the two having the same total won points of 198.5.

Kiwanis started slowly losing the first game 2-5, but flexed its muscle in the second and third games, which it won 5-2 and 6-1 to eke a 16-8 win over former four-time champion Palm Grove CCF Bowlers.

The win, however, matters not in the standing as Kiwanis remained at 8th spot with 191.5 won points. (Roderick Osis)
