Hedcor opens Trinidad's first 'green' building

HEDCOR Inc. recently inaugurated its Engineering Building, the first green building in the locality with La Trinidad Mayor Gregorio T. Abalos as the guest of honor.

The facility houses over 50 engineers who are tasked to explore and develop the hydropower potentials in Mt. Province, Benguet and other areas in Luzon.

Designed by local architect Raffy Chan, the green building is designed with integrated lights as support illumination during cloudy or dark days, while daylight is maximized through the use of oversized windows to keep power demands at lowest. It also showcases a contraption that collects rain water used in other facilities like comfort rooms and for cleaning.

With the impending power crisis, Hedcor is continuously searching for potentials to sustain the power needs while keeping up with its commitment to the environment. The recently commissioned 42.5 megawatt Sibulan Hydropower Project in Sibulan, Davao del Sur was seen by the Department of Energy to help mitigate power shortage in Mindanao. The Sibulan project is ran by Hedcor's sister company, Hedcor Sibulan, Inc.

Hedcor produces only clean and renewable energy through its 15 run-of-river schemes in Benguet and Davao which produces very little or no adverse effects to the environment. It also promotes reforestation projects as watersheds are crucial in the operations of hydropower systems. (PR)
