Kabayan schedules another peak climb
La Trinidad, Benguet - Kabayan Mayor Faustino Aquisan is preparing for another climb.
Aquisan said the climb to Mount Tabayok is set on February 20 to 21.
The mountain is the fifth highest in the country at 9,322 feet above sea level.
Aquisan said the climbers will now be limited to 75 for the two-day trek, learning from last December's climb up Mt. Pulag.
The tour will be an opportunity for mountaineers, hikers, and nature lovers to view the Tabeyo Lake, Letepngepos Lake, Incolos Lake, and the multi-awarded cleanest inland Ambulalakaw Lake.
Aquisan said participants will have the chance to get a glimpse of the well-preserved mummies kept at the Kabayan National Museum.
Recently, the Kabayan ascent to Mt. Pulag was criticized for allowing almost 300 climbers to reach the peak at one time.
Aquisan maintained, however, there were no Department of Environment and Natural Resources guidelines on the number of climbers allowed for any Pulag expedition.
Regional Technical Director Reynaldo Yawan said a maximum of 120 climbers should have been allowed up Mt. Pulag.
A damage assessment is now ongoing to determine the effects of the December 19 Pulag climb. The assessment hopes to uncover the extent of destruction that was brought about by the Kabayan sponsored climb to the peak last month. (Maria Elena Catajan)
