Kiddie chess fires off Nov. 14

THE much awaited first La Trinidad kiddie chess tournament will finally see the day of light come November 14 and 15 at the municipal gymnasium.

Organizers said the event, sponsored by the Municipality of La Trinidad through Mayor Artemio Galwan, Association of Barangay Council president Robert Namoro and Youth Council chairman Johnrey Miguel, is open to all children 12 years old and below.

The event is spearheaded by the Regional Kordilyera Chess Association.

It promised to give cash prizes and trophies to winners.

The seven round Swiss system event also aims to promote the game of chess in the locality and the organization’s way of helping mould young minds so they will not be influenced by vices that might destroy their future.

The tournament is also open to in-school and out-of-school youths in the municipality.

To qualify, players must present a birth certificate or a certification from their barangay chief.

Roger Garcia, KCA vice president said they are expecting at least 50 participants in the tournament but the number is expected to rise in the coming days.

“We moved it to alter date because our main concern is the safety of our children,” Garcia said.

He said this is also a venue for the organization to discover new and young talents who might compete locally, at the national level and even internationally.

Inquiries about the upcoming tournaments may be coursed through Garcia at 0906-228-3996 or through KCA president Henry Aliten at 0927-619-2061. (Roderick Osis)
