Sice conducts essay writing and poster making contests

TWELVE secondary schools participated in the essay writing and poster making contests organized by the Synchronized Information Communication Education (Sice) Team Mankayan cluster held on August 26 at the CPJ Training Center, Lepanto, Mankayan, Benguet.
The contest revolving on the theme, "Responsible Mining: Enabling a Better Future," was worked on by the 24 contestants for the essay and 24 contenders for the poster making.

The Essay writing plum was won by Graciel Baroy from Lepanto National High School (Main Campus) who won the P5,000 first prize and a computer set with printer for her school.
The second prize was garnered by Peter Murphy Guitelen from Mankayan National High School and Eric Von Sab-it from Bulalacao National High School who were given P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
Likewise, the same prizes were given to the winners of the poster making contest, namely: Rangib Otengguey from Mankayan National High School, first place; Roldan Angel from Guinaoang National High School, second place; and Jordan Contrero from Quirino National High School.
Non-winning participants received P500 each as consolation prize.
The first and second prize winners will represent the Mankayan cluster in the regional essay writing and poster making contests to be held during the Philippine Mine Safety Environment Association Week in November.
The activity was sponsored by the Sice Team-Mankayan cluster. The mining company members are Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company-FSE Goldfields, Itogon-Suyoc Resources Inc., Crescent Mining Development Company and Royalco Philippines Inc.-Vale.
Mayor Materno Luspian graced the activity. He gave his inspiring message to the participants and to their teacher.
Engineer Sydney Lalwet, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau representative, gave a challenging message with the acronym GOLD, which emphasized on God as creator of everything that we should be stewards of God's creation; be responsible to Other People; put Love first in everything we do; and Determination to exercise our gifts and talents for the protection and enhancement of our environment.
