ABOITIZPOWER'S wholly-owned subsidiary Hedcor Sibulan Inc. turned over P5.8 million to the local government unit and its host communities to mark its first year of operation of the 43.5 Sibulan Hydropower Plant.
The barangays of Darong and Sibulan in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, and the Tribal Councils of Tudaya and Sibulan received their annual share from the hydropower plant.
Hedcor shared P1.6 million to the municipality of Sta. Cruz, P1.1 million to Barangay Sibulan, while half a million pesos for Barangay Darong on March 31.
On the other hand, the Tribal Community also received P1 million on April 1, while the province of Davao del Sur received P1.6 million on April 11.
"We will be using the amount given for reforestation and to fund the livelihood program of the barangay on live stock dispersal so that the money will be used productively and many of our constituents will benefit from this," said Lydia Ang, Sibulan barangay captain.
"Hedcor is one of the best things, or probably the best thing that happened in Sta. Cruz," said Mayor Joel Ray Lopez.
The 42.5-megawatt run-of-river Sibulan Hydropower Plant started its commercial operation last March 26, 2010 with a total generation of 105.50 GWhs of Cleanergy, AboitizPower's brand of clean and renewable energy.
On top of the annual shares, Hedcor, in partnership with Aboitiz Foundation Inc., regularly conducts Corporate Social Responsibility projects focusing on primary health, education, energization, reforestation and livelihood.
AboitizPower is the holding company for the Aboitiz Group's investments in power generation, distribution, retail and power services. (PR)
