THE open space where the Baguio City auditorium used to stand might be bid out for the construction of a multi-purpose building.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan recently revealed bidding of the area would commence once it is approved by the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA).
The mayor said the site of the old auditorium is the only area where vertical development can be done.
In the design done by the University of the Cordilleras, a multilevel parking building is supposed to be built there. However, the mayor said he prefers a multi-purpose building than a parking building alone.
The site of city auditorium is usually used for various purposes including a vending site for souvenir items as well as firecrackers during the New Year.
Through a resolution passed by the City Council, the City Government also rented out the area for pay parking. The experimental period has since lapsed.
The mayor said because Burnham continues to be under the PTA’s administration while Baguio is on the management side, permission has to be obtained for the development of some portions of the park.
