BANGUED, Abra -- The Social Security System (SSS) is celebrating its 54th anniversary this September with services and simple surprise or “pakulo”.

Benedicta Garcia, branch manager of SSS Bangued, led her staff in carrying out a simple “pakulo” last September 1. They gave away surprise prizes to their clients with the major prize to the 54th client of the day. All the other clients were treated to a merienda on that day.

SSS will also conduct Pensioners’ Day on September 28, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Bangued Municipal Hall. There will also be a medical mission on the same day, where the first 100 clients will be given free vitamins.

The theme of this year’s anniversary celebration is, “Sa SSS: Miyembro’y Protektado, Kinabukasa’y Sinisiguro.”

In line with this theme, the manager explained the life plan of the SSS is continuing as its assets increased and now reached P350 billion.

Meanwhile, the SSS is inviting members to register online to avail of the paperless transactions with the system, as well as the text SSS mechanism for getting immediate answers to their queries.

The SSS is now also promoting the use of the UMID cards. However, the Bangued branch does not have the ID-making machine yet, so Garcia advises the members to go to the other branches of the SSS for their UMID card if they cannot wait for the time that the machine would be delivered to Bangued.

Since Abra had been declared under a state of calamity due to the aftermath of typhoon Mina, Garcia said they will yet to wait for the directives from the Central Office. However, salary loans with a maximum amount of P24,000 is continuing. (Maritess B. Beñas)
