Gay weddings: A victory for the LGBT community-A A +A
Saturday, December 31, 2011
IT WAS a victory for the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender (LGBT) community here as noise on the gay unions pushed to the forefront rights of the members of the third sex.
Pastor Myke Sotero of the Metropolitan Community (MCC) Church of Metro Baguio is thanking opposition for the increase of gay and lesbian unions, with the publicity given by those denouncing the unions as immoral more couples are opting to get “married”.
In June, a mass wedding was patterned from traditional Catholic ceremonies at an inn here officiated by pastors Sotero, Egay Constantino, Ceejay Agbayani and Regen Luna of the MCC, raising eyebrows and the ire of the bishops.
The MCC brands the “marriages” they solemnize as unions, making it free from legal implications and protecting the interest of their church as well as their clients.
The opposition also opened the eyes of the public to LGBT rights, and House Bill 1483 or the Anti-Discrimination Bill to rage against LGBT killings and equal opportunities for all. (Malen Catajan)
