EFFORTS to develop and rehabilitate Baguio’s premiere park are nearing completion.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the newly rehabilitated Burnham Park’s Rose Garden is due for inauguration on February 25 with Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez as guest of honor.

The project on its first phase was built from around a P20 million fund from the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority and another P20 million from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Representative Bernardo Vergara.

The City Government was also assured recently by the University of the Cordilleras through its president Dr. Ricardo Pama for the continued assistance and maintenance of the Rose Garden.

Domogan said other ongoing projects in the park include the completion of the Burnham Fencing Project initiated by Baguio-Benguet Bishop Carlito Cenzon.

The P25 million fund from the Department of Public Works and Highways was recently released after President Benigno Aquino III promised to assist Bishop Cenzon in his project to make Burnham Park safe and secure for both tourists and locals.

Moreover, Burnham Lake was also recently identified by DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson for dredging.

The mayor said he has instructed the City Engineers Office to speed up the program of works on the proposed dredging project to be included in next year’s budget.

But before the dredging happens, he said fishes, which include tilapia and koi released by members of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, should be screened and released back after the project is completed.
