TO AVOID being tagged as the dirtiest village, Mayor Mauricio Domogan challenged barangays to join the city’s crusade to solve the garbage problem.

The mayor claimed barangays play an important role in the success for the Cleanest and Greenest Barangay contest this year.

He claimed they are strict in the judging process to identify the cleanest and greenest villages, for them to reward those who have been steadfast in promoting cleanliness in their surroundings.

A portion of the P4-million subsidy for Panagbenga was allocated as prizes for the city’s Clean and Green search.

However, he claimed those who would not pass the standard of the search will be given the dirtiest award to challenge residents and officials to improve their efforts in cleaning up their surroundings.

He said partnering with the barangays is important in solving the solid waste management problems of the city, as the process of segregation has not yet been perfected in many areas in the city.

Once the segregation process in the villages is perfected, the mayor said, residuals will be directly hauled to the private sanitary landfill in Capas, Tarlac, while recyclables will be sold by the city and biodegradables processed at the Environmental Recycling System.

Other transfer and sorting stations identified by the city are the Material Recovery Facilities in City Camp, Lualhati and Lourdes which he said will help reduce the volume of trash collected daily.
