CONSISTENT with the continuing campaign to manage, protect, preserve and enhance the environment, a councilor filed a proposal aimed at protecting a tree of the city.
The proposed resolution by Councilor Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda requested the City Environment and Parks Management Office to save the Norfolk pine tree located at the foot of Session Road.

As mentioned in the proposed measure, one of the events of the yearly “Christmas in Baguio” is the lighting of the towering Christmas tree which is the Norfolk pine tree at the foot of Session Road which has become a landmark in the city.
It can be recalled that the event is one of the main attractions during the month-long celebration of Christmas since the lighting of the Christmas lights enshrouding the Norfolk pine signals the beginning of the yuletide season.
However, as pointed out by Tabanda, it has been observed by both locals and guests of the city that the Norlfok pine tree, to date, has looked less robust and lacked the familiar grandeur that made it a living landmark and one of the symbols of Baguio.
Trabanda recommended to save the Norfolk pine tree to save it from further damage that may have been due to pest infestation, pollution and old age.
