Ifugao town creates livelihood committee

KIANGAN, Ifugao -- The Municipal Government recently created the Municipal Livelihood Program Committee (MLPC) that will help encourage investments in sustainable and enterprising projects that will motivate and assist the people to earn their source of income.

Mayor Joselito Guyguyon said the provision of livelihood projects would provide economic activities to rural-based organizations and other entrepreneurs of Kiangan who are part of the poverty reduction program of the municipality.

To attain such purpose, there is a need to create a body to rationalize, advocate, consolidate, harness and facilitate the development directions, programs and projects and monitor and evaluate the livelihood development programs for sustainability, he said.

He added that for the livelihood program to prosper, there is a need to support the same through the provision of technical, technological, marketing and promotions services by both private and government sector.

The MLPC is composed of representatives from the Mayor’s Office, municipal agriculture office, Office of the Municipal Council, Tourism Office, Treasury office, municipal planning and development office, accounting office, municipal social welfare and development office, budget office, municipal agriculture and fishery council and the human resource management office.

The regular members shall select among themselves who will be the presiding chairperson, vice chairperson and appoint the secretariat who will be in charge of safekeeping documents like the minutes of meeting, list of livelihood beneficiaries and others.

The duties and responsibilities of the MLPC include the preparation of the medium and short term plans of livelihood projects as the blue print for developing the sector, recommend policies for adaptation by rural-based organizations (RBOs) and other livelihood beneficiaries, undertake advocacy activities in support tom sound livelihood development programs and projects, assist RBOs in the preparation of livelihood project proposals and source out funds from possible funding agencies, jointly undertake with partner agencies program implementation and regularly monitor and evaluate livelihood programs and projects.
