LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Adivay preparations are now underway here.
Governor Nestor Fongwan said plans for the annual Adivay are underway as well as the formulation of a theme for the celebration.
Usual activities for the gathering of 13 municipalities are also being polished.
Lined up for the November celebration is a parade, cultural activities presented by various local government units, and the search for Mr. and Ms. Benguet.
“This year we will have recognition of past officials; we will give them a tribute,” Fongwan said.
Ceremonies will be given to officials who have served the province in the past to highlight the festivities.
Another activity lined up is recognition of provincial scholars who have excelled in their fields of practice. “We have a lot of scholars in the province and we would also like to honour them,” Fongwan said.
Fongwan said the celebration will now give credence to overseas Filipino workers from the province, “We will have a day for balikbayans who are from Benguet,” adding programs are being crafted for them.
The Adivay is a gathering of all 13 municipalities in celebration of the year.
The celebration is known to gather the biggest agricultural trade fair the province has known with over 90 booths displaying different produce and culture. Traditionally there are 13 stalls on display representing the towns here where the best of the municipalities will be shown.
Adivay 2012 will also commemorate the province’s 112th founding anniversary; the celebrations begin with a traditional Iwik as an offering to the gods.
