TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city of Tabuk and the town of Balbalan, which are the province's entries to the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi (GPL) award for 2012, were recently evaluated by the regional validation on team from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
DILG-Kalinga director Francisco Gamatero said that Tabuk City would be representing the province for the city category and Balbalan for the municipal category in the regional level.
He said that this would be the second time that this city would be joining the search after being awarded last year. The City Government received P2 million for said accomplishment.
The GPL award is conferred to local government units with exemplary performance on major development initiatives in administrative governance, social governance, economic governance and environmental governance.
According to Gamatero, to qualify for the GPL, the local government uniot (LGU) must be a recipient of the Seal of Good Housekeeping having been assessed with high ratings based on the indicators of the Local Governance Performance Management System.
Cash awards for winners will come from the P500-million Performance Challenge Fund.
Winning provinces would be given a trophy with a check of P3 million each, the city awardees would get a trophy plus a check of P2-million each, while municipal winners would get a trophy and a check of P1-million each.
“The fund would serve as funding support for the programs and projects under the Millennium Development Goals,” he said. (Geraldine G. Dumallig)
