THE Police Regional Office-Cordillera (Procor) is now empowering its forensic investigation as an effective way to solve crimes, said its Regional Director Benjamin Magalong last Saturday, August 29.
He said he had been asking police stations to focus on forensics against being dependent on witness's testimonies.
Magalong also said that during these past years, police investigators focused mostly on witness's testimonies.
However, the director said there are a lot of witnesses today who usually recant their testimonies when they are paid or threatened. He added that once the witnesses recant his testimonies, then the case loses.
In order to avoid these denials and changes in the witnesses' testimonies, Magalong said the police enforcers were told to focus on forensics because these evidences cannot lie.
He added these forensic evidences are real materials to cling on.
Magalong cited Abra and Kalinga are the provinces wherein witnesses usually change or deny his testimony. It is because of threats and payment to decline as witness.
He said forensics form of investigation is very important to solve crimes in a certain area, adding that it has a great possibility to solve, prosecute and win the case in court.
The Procor chief also said they conduct continuous trainings to the police stations in order for them to be capable in forensic investigation.
Magalong said it is not only the Crime of the Scene Operations that needs knowledge on this technique but also the different police stations in the region
