BARANGAY Irisan lorded over some 127 other villages to receive first place in the 2011 Search for Best Performing Barangay.

In Monday’s flag raising program at City Hall, the barangay was given a plaque of recognition and P50,000 cash incentive for excellent multi-sector performance, particularly in the fields of administration and good governance, environmental programs, infrastructure projects, peace and order, health and social services.

Village chief Thomas Dumalti, together with the barangay council, said they are grateful for the awards they have been reaping this year that already include Best Lupong Tagapamayapa, Best Tourism Council and the Outstanding Punong Barangays in the city.

Other barangays who placed in the Top 5 with their corresponding incentives are: Gibraltar (1st runner-up and P40,000 prize); City Camp Proper (2nd runner-up and P30,000 prize); Pinget (3rd runner-up and P20,000) and Middle Quezon Hill (4th runner-up and 15,000 prize).

Imelda Village was also adjudged as Hall of Fame awardee for bagging the award in the past four years from 2008 to 2010.

Also included in the Top 20 barangays with cash incentives are Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Loakan Proper, Middle Quirino Hill, Leonila Hill, SLU-SVP, Pinsao Pilot Project, Victoria Village, Upper Quezon Hill, Hillside, Sto. Tomas Proper, MRR-Queen of Peace, Fairview, Lower Rock Quarry, Loakan Apugan and East Quirino Hill, each receiving P5,000.

Some 15 barangays who were also recognized in the search are Alfonso Tabora, Andres Bonifacio, East Modernsite, Happy Homes-New Lucban, Holy Ghost Proper, Lucnab, Manuel Roxas, Pacdal, Pinsao Proper, Salud Mitra, San Roque Village, South Drive, Upper General Luna, Upper QM, and Upper Rock Quarry.

Judging committee chairman lawyer Ronald Perez representing the private sector said reports, presence and availability of officials to show their day-to-day activities during judging and well prepared documentations were the basis for choosing the best barangay.

He said the incentives and recognition given to best performing barangays remain as motivating factors for other barangays to continue their exemplary services to their constituents.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan also challenged other barangays to perform better and improve the delivery of their services to the people.

The Search for Best Berforming Barangays was initiated by the City Mayor’s Office way back in 2005 as part of incentives and awards given to villages in their performance of services to the people. (JM Agreda)
