Education agency awards best literacy programs

THE Department of Education (DepEd) recently awarded the best literacy program nationwide.

DepEd Undersecretary Rizalino Rivera awarded plaques of recognition to the winners from all over the country during the National Literacy Conference Wednesday held in Baguio City.

Paaralang Mangyan na Angkop sa Kulturang Aalagaan (Pamana Ka) won the outstanding literacy program. The proponent is the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, Mimaropa region.

Cor Jesu College – Br. Polycarp Institute for Community Development Foundation, Inc. from Digos City, Davao Del Sur, Davao region ranked second. “Education for All: A way and ways towards empowering self and communities” is its literacy program.

The FCF Minerals Corporations – Runruno Livelihood Foundation of Barangay Runruno, Quezon, Nueva Viscaya, Cagayan Valley garnered third outstanding literacy program. The title of its program is “FCF Literacy program: Handog Aral sa Ikauunlad ng Buhay”.

Universidad de Sta. Isabel, Naga City, Bicol region placed fourth with “Buhai Kamalayan” literacy program. On the other hand, Junior Chamber International Hundred Islands from Alaminos City, Pangasinan, Ilocos region topped fifth with its program, “Out–of–School - Youth and Adults community–based eco–friendly”.

Meanwhile, other awards were also given to the different local government units and cities of the country.

The municipality of Cuyo, Palawan, Mimaropa region got the first outstanding local government unit municipal class level B. The town is headed by Mayor Andrew Ong. Meanwhile, Plaridel, Bulacan, Region III won the first outstanding LGU class A under Mayor AnastaciaVistan.

Hall of fame Davao City, Davao region won the first outstanding LGU highly urbanized city for the third time. The city is under the leadership of Mayor Sara Duterte. She was represented by Atty. Zuleika Lopez during the awarding ceremony.

Following Davao is Pasay City in the National Capital Region. The city topped second highly urbanized city under the leadership of City Mayor Antonino Calixto. Butuan City, Caraga ranked third with its City Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr.

The fourth place goes to Tacloban City of Eastern Visayas. It is headed by City Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

The fifth place is a tie between Baguio City and and General Santos City of Soccsksargen. GenSan is under City Mayor Darlene Magnolia Antonino–Custodio.
