DILG starts screening for awards

EFFORTS of various legislative bodies of towns and cities of the nation in the community development will not be in vain now as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recognizes these performances.
The DILG started to evaluate the different local government units’ (LGUs) performances in search for the outstanding legislative body of the country.
The agency’s memorandum circular 143, series of 2012 revealed the provincial evaluation on the award is ongoing which started on September 1 until October 1.
The award was launched by the Philippine Councilors League with the DILG in 2006. The award aims to recognize exemplary performances of the legislative bodies of cities and towns in legislating measures which help build the foundation of a meaningful local administration and development.
The participants are all councils and the coverage of the evaluation is performances from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012.
Moreover, the award aims to “highlight innovations and excellence in the legislative process with the end view of inspiring other legislatures to perform better. It further aims to institutionalize a system of recognition to the councils for its exemplary performances.”
The regional evaluation will follow after the provincial evaluation, which will commence on November 1 up to 30. On December 1–28 is slated for the submission of entry documents of national finalists to the National Awards Committee through the Bureau of Local Government Supervision.
The National Board of Judges will review the documents of finalists on January 2–31, 2013. On February 15, 2013, the screening committee will select the national winners of the award. The awarding will soon be scheduled which will fall on March 2013.
There are national, regional and provincial screening committees created to handle the evaluation. They will visit the different LGUs of the country for a field evaluation.
