Police, rebels clash in Apayao

PUDTOL, Apayao -- Another encounter between the government force and rebels was recorded in town around 6:45 a.m. Monday.
The Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) and the Apayao Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) encountered an undetermined number of fully armed men in Sitio Barayutan, Cacalaggan, Pudtol.
The men were believed to be under the leadership of David Soriano, alias Colly/Rosa/Enteng/Elgie/Ap/Lemar/Eric, and operating in the province and nearby places.
The firefight lasted for 30 minutes.
A civilian, who happened to be at the place, was hit by a stray bullet. She is now at the hospital and declared out of danger by the attending physician.
The RPSB and the PPSC recovered two cellular phones, empty shells of 5.56, 7.62 rifles, and a Carbine in the encounter scene.
No government troops were injured in the encounter while it is undetermined if the rebels suffered casualties as they withdrew towards the northwest.
Police Regional Director Benjamin Magalong lauded the troops for their bravery and immediately ordered the conduct of pursuit operations against the rebels.
He added under his watch, he will not allow extortion, looting, and other illegal activities mostly done by this kind of group.
