Benguet hosts third provincial coop confab

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The province is set to conduct the third Benguet Cooperative Convention in celebration of Cooperative month this October.
The convention set on October 17-18 will be graced by Cooperative Development Authority head Emmanuel Santiagel on the first day and Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives (APEC) party-list Representative Ponciano Payuyo on the second day.
It will be highlighted by a program, educational forum, mini-trade fair, and parade.
The mini-trade fair will feature products of coops of the various municipalities, One-Town-One-Product and other produce as outputs in livelihood activities.
In the educational forum, there will be mini-lectures on the status of the vegetable industry and the implementation of the Asean Free Trade Area (AFTA), Bureau of Internal Revenue’s implementation of Cooperative Tax Exemptions, Social Security System benefits and updates, PhilHealth programs and services to coop members, Pag-IBIG programs and services to coop members, environmental responsibility of coops, CDA updates, Coop Insurance System of the Philippines services, entrepreneurial opportunities of coops, Cooperative Bank of Benguet services, and barangay food terminals.
A parade, which is deemed a relevant activity in promoting and advocating the cooperative movement, is set on October 18, according to the CDA.
Special awards will also be accorded to top performing coops during the closing program.
Presidential Proclamation 493 declares the month of October every year as Cooperative Month. (Susan Aro)
