THE Department of Health (DOH) in Cordillera encouraged the public to avail of the free services offered by its Garantisadong Pambata (GP) program.
DOH Nutrition Program coordinator Flora Pelingen said the GP program aims to provide free services on deworming and provision of vitamin A and vaccines to kids ages 0 to 14 in the provinces of Cordillera.
Apart from these, Pelingen said they also advocate breastfeeding, proper hand washing and tooth brushing, and the no smoking policy.
She added the GP program started in 2006. It started as an annual event but Pelingen said in October of 2011, the central office of DOH launched the GP project as a daily activity of health centers in the country.
With this new scheme, the nutritionist explained parents can now bring their kids to any health centers on their available time.
Pelingen revealed Ifugao has the highest list of beneficiaries who received the GP services. DOH provided Vitamin A to 93 percent of the targeted beneficiaries while 90 percent received free deworming in the province.
On the other hand, Mt. Province has the lowest beneficiaries with 84% on Vitamin A and 76 percent on deworming.
