Mine safety conference schedule of activities revealed

CELEBRATIONS for the 59th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) are set in Baguio City.
Headed by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA), the convention is themed: “Responsible Mining: Our Advocacy, our commitment.”
The ANMSEC is scheduled to kick off November 13, Tuesday, with a press conference led by PMSEA president Louie Sarmiento, who will announce the activities for the four-day event.
Activities include a tree planting mission at the Botanical Garden area adopted by the mining association with minerals symposium geared to boost the industry and its standards through an exchange of information and technology.
The opening of the annual Mining Exhibit at the Garden Wing of the CAP-Camp John Hay convention center is set to display the industry’s best.
Last year, there were seven ambassadors who graced the celebration led by Australia’s Roderick Richard Campbell Smith Brazil’s Alcides Gastao Rostand Prates, Chile’s Roberto Mayorga, South Africa’s Agnes Nyamande-Pitso, Switzerland’s Ivo Sieber, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Stephen Lillie and China’s Liu Jianchao who attended the four day mining week.
This year there is an estimated 700 delegates from all over the country who will converge here for the annual conference.
Mines and Geosciences officer in Charge Fay Apil said during the convention the issue of Philex mines will likewise be taken up as a major topic.
PMSEA is an organization of mining companies, quarries, cement plants, suppliers, service contractors, professional organizations and government agencies that advocates a national campaign against occupational safety, health and environmental hazards of mining and its related operations.
