BUREAU of Internal Revenue (BIR) Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) aims at enhance tax collection by redoubling efforts to achieve revenue targets for 2013.
Taxpayers of CAR are encouraged to file their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and pay the taxes on or before deadline on April 16.
BIR Regional Director Eduardo Bajador said some P57 million additional revenues is needed to hit their target last year of P3.4 billion in collections which he is optimistic that they can achieve with collections arriving within the week from district offices.
The revenue region in the Cordillera covers the City of Baguio, La Trinidad, Abra, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Kalinga and Apayao.
One of Bajador’s strategies for this year is to redouble their efforts claiming collection targets increase every year.
He added that the BIR regional office will strategize this first quarter of 2013 to increase campaign efforts especially that the election season would mean additional spending in the region this year.
The director added there will be continuing campaigns against tax evaders.
He said tax evaders will be identified from non-evaders by the basis of fraud committed by culling third party information.
The BIR director also warned that non-filing of ITRs and/or non-payment of taxes has dire consequences and will be dealt with accordingly.
Non–compliance may result in either the imposition of penalties, closure of business operations through Oplan Kandado and worst, imprisonment and fine if found guilty by the courts of law for various violations of the Tax Code.
BIR encourages taxpayers with tax payments to pay with BIR Authorized Agent Banks and with the Revenue Collection Officers. For no payment returns, taxpayers must file them with the Revenue District Office where the taxpayer is registered or with any Tax Filing Center established for this year’s filing season.
Assistance in the centers will also be offered to facilitate payers’ filing of ITRs and payment of taxes. (Ryan Fernandez/UPB Intern)
