Cariño installed as YMCA-Baguio president

THE Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Baguio inducted to office Councilor Richard Cariño as this year’s president in a solemn ceremony at the YMCA Function Hall.

The new set of the YMCA Board of Directors and members of the Performance Review Commission (PRC) were also inducted that night.

This year’s inducting team was led by Baguio Country Club general manager Anthony De Leon as guest of honor and speaker and chief inducting officer.

He was assisted by YMCA national treasurer and Pangasinan YMCA president Edilberto Abalos, 1st inducting officer; retired Education superintendent Jose M. Olarte, 2nd inducting officer; YMCA national general secretary Pablito Tabucol, 3rd Inducting Officer; and Bank of Commerce Baguio branch manager Cherry Anne Yap.

De Leon, following the installation of the new set of officers, commended the YMCA of Baguio Inc. pursuant to its goal as a movement in service for the youth and community.

De Leon emphasized on “servant leadership” as the key to the YMCA movement’s success and also commended the illustrious leadership of the past and present leaders of the YMCA of Baguio, stressing, “Life is giving service.”

Meanwhile, turning over the leadership of Baguio YMCA was immediate past president and incumbent YMCA national president Felix Eliral Refuerzo who challenged the new set of officers to further face the obstacles for the development of the YMCA Baguio.

In his acceptance, Cariño laid down projects and programs the 2013 Board of Directors will pursue remaining true to the tenets of the YMCA. He said that lined up major projects for the YMCA in 2013 are: upgrading the sports equipment of the YMCA bodybuilding gym and division of the gym for males and females; purchase of a YMCA camp site; purchase of generator; and the inclusion of shower rooms in the gymnasium for members use.

He also thanked de Leon for including and giving the opportunity for the YMCA to have a booth at the Session Road in Bloom during the Panagbenga celebration, as well as having an opportunity to use the BCC freeway for a golf tournament.

Other YMCA Officers inducted were: 1st vice president – Engr. Rex Ludaes; 2nd vice president –Rose Dulnuan; corporate secretary – Ptr. Robert Sison; treasurer –Ronnel Victor Ruiz; asst. treasurer – Esperanza Pinas; auditor –Ronnie Peñular; Board Members: Federico Turcuato, Jefferson Pakias, Isidro De La Cruz Jr., Jane Liu, Lolita Mananes; Youth Board Members: Dereck Baquian, Josiah Balawag; and Jeahd Rowe Mata.

Performance Review Commission members are Ernesto Toquero, Ruben Tinda-an, Roland Paragas, Marlon Tabdi and Maricris Agas. (PR)
