Councilors look into dirty terminals

THE City Council called for the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of Baguio, Benguet and La Union to shed light on the unhygienic conditions of city terminals.
Councilors called on the attention of operators through jeepney federation president Perfecto Itliong Jr. to monitor unhygienic conditions of their terminals.
Itliong told councilors that they have no control over the terminals after 9:30 p.m.
Itliong also said most jeepney terminals have no restrooms with some jeepney associations using the restrooms of business establishments close to their terminal. Public restrooms are also close at 9:30 p.m.
Councilor Joel Alangsab proposed for jeepney associations to ask permission from the different business establishments close to their terminals to allow passengers to use the restroom and for them to partner with barangays where their terminals are located.
Councilor Richard Cariño also suggested having portalet in Igorot Garden, where six terminals are located, to be used by the riding public.
Itliong said the council has scouted for portalet rentals, but failed to give a price because it is unlikely for every jeepney association to acquire a portalet due to budget constraints. Itliong requested the City Council for financial assistance.
Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas told Itliong to conduct a survey in the different terminals concerning public restrooms and portalets and report their sentiments to the City Council for appropriate action.
