BAGUIO Representative Bernardo Vergara assured the rehabilitation of the Irisan dumpsite and conversion into an eco–park will be over in 10 months.
He said a budget of P80 million was already approved in 2012 by the Aquino administration.
However, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the implementation of the project was delayed, because of the long process before the approval of the program of works.
Department of Public Works and Highways-Baguio District Engineer Ireneo Gallato said the project includes structure excavation; cutting of present pavement; breaking of the ramshackle pavement and boulders; preparation of the foundation of the park; construction of new reinforce retaining wall; and creating septic tank, among others.
He added that the program of work was firmly reviewed and modified by several engineering experts from government and non–government agencies and several universities in Baguio.
On August 27, 2011, the retaining wall of the Irisan dumpsite collapsed after heavy rains generated by Typhoon Mina, which killed six people below the site along the city boundary in Km. 5, Asin Road.
