Mankayan holds ‘Mother of the Year’ search

MANKAYAN, Benguet – The legislative body recently institutionalized an annual search for the “Mother of the Year” that aims to recognize exemplary mothers in town.
The municipal ordinance, series of 2013 entitled “Institutionalizing the annual search for the mother of the year in Mankayan” was initiated by Councilor Alex Binomnga Sr.
The council through the ordinance expressed mothers’ value as a role model and keeper in the family and in the community is undeniable.
It further stated mothers devoted themselves to taking care of their families especially the children.
Mothers have the active role in nurturing and educating their kids that connects to the social and economic development of the community and the nation as a whole.
With these contributions, the council found it proper to recognize these works of devoted mothers in town.
The implementing agency will be the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office while the search committee will be chaired by the town’s chief executive.
Among the qualifications of a nominee to the award are: she must be a mother by birth or adoption; must be a resident in town for at least 20 years; must be a mother who is still married and not separated; with good moral character; must be a role model for her children; with excellent parenting qualities; must have attained personal achievements; with community outreach participation; must project good image of the barangay where she resides or the town itself; and must be able to represent the town in any social engagement once chosen as the mother of the year.
The winner will receive a plaque of recognition, cash gift and a resolution to be enacted by the council in favor of her.
