LAGAWE, Ifugao -- More sitios in the province will be energized this year under the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) of the national government through the Ifugao Electric Cooperative (Ifelco).
Jovy Allaga, manager of the Institutional Services Department (ISD) of Ifelco, said the office listed 138 sitios as beneficiaries under the SEP this 2013 to be started upon the completion of all requirements. This is expected to benefit more than 2,000 households.
Allaga disclosed 180 sitios were energized last year under the SEP and nine barangays under Barangay Line Enhancement Program (BLEP) of the government.
The successful implementation of the project is attributed to the efforts of Ifelco general manager Engr. Jaime Benito Jr. with the support of the Board of Directors headed by its president Antonio Padduyao, she added.
Allaga explained during the initial implementation of the project, Ifelco management coordinated with the barangay officials for the listing of beneficiaries in the area and recruitment of qualified laborers.
Moreover, ISD personnel educated the prospective member-consumers on how to become a cooperative member. They conducted pre-membership education seminar in priority areas covered by the SEP/BLEP Projects while the Technical Services Department headed by Engr. Chester Beteran and other technical staff were in charge of supervision in the construction or energization of electric lines.
With rural electrification a priority program of President Benigno Aquino III, National Electrification Administration Administrator Editha Bueno issued Memorandum 2011-24 to electric cooperatives to implement the SEP/BLEP Program until 2016. (Marcelo Lihgawon)
