LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Governor Nestor Fongwan is hopeful investments for the province will increase.
Fongwan said many investors are watching the progress of multinational companies setting up their business here.
"They are watching us and waiting to see what will happen," the exec said.
"If we make it extremely hard for investors to come in, it will affect perspective investors who want to come into the province," the governor added.
The province is backed by international organizations like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a partner in agricultural development; SN Aboitiz Power, for being top taxpayers of the province; hydro company, Hedcor, for donating P10 million for the completion of the Wangal Sports Complex; as well as mining firms operating in the province for jumpstarting economy.
Fongwan acknowledged new investors in the province like COHECO which started to ground work for a Kapangan project as well as Philex and the Far South East of Lepanto Mining Corporation, which despite its problems, continues to support the province.
Fongwan said one of the emerging economic perspectives of the province remains to be argi-tourism which is picking up over the years.
The Department of Tourism identified eco and agri tourism as major strengths of the province. Tourism is an economic driver, planning, development as well as marketing is very crucial for success.
For the province, the DOT in coordination with the DPWH has earmarked millions in road development of tourism highways, making it easier to access areas in the province.
There is a P170 million budget for the Benguet Province, which are seen to further improve the local tourism industry.
