Tanghalang SLU bags 2 prestigious Aliw Awards-A A +A

SAINT Louis University's Tanghalang SLU once again proved it is among the most formidable theater groups in the country.
The university-based theater group bagged two Aliw Awards out of five nominations as Best Cultural Group for two consecutive years and Best Non Musical Production for the play Penitensya ni Tiyo Renato besting Manila-based theater groups and other national theater companies.
The 26th Aliw Awards had its awards night on October 8 at the Manila Hotel attended by respected names in the Philippine entertainment industry.
Tanghalang SLU also received nominations as Best Child Performer for John Gabriel Barlis and Best Stage Director for Dan Rommel Riopay also for Penitensya ni Tiyo Renato.
The group also received an Aliw Awards nomination as Best Production for Children for Hiwaga ng Ibong Adarna.
Tanghalang SLU has been receiving nominations and awards from the Aliw Awards since 2011 for various stage and theatrical productions of the SLU Center for Culture and the Arts Performing Group.
The Saint Louis University Glee Club was also nominated as Best Choral Group together with Le Monet performer Benj Cruz who was nominated as Best Male Performer in Hotels, Lounges and Bars.
The Aliw Awards is organized annually by the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. aimed at recognizing achievements in the live entertainment industry in the country giving awards for excellence in theatre, opera, dance, live vocal and instrumental shows.
Among the notable winners of the 26th Aliw Awards this year were Dulce as Entertainer of the Year; Abra as Best New Artist; Ryza Mae Dizon as Best Child Performer; Ely Buendia as Best Male Performer in a concert; Bamboo as Best Major Concert; and Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano as Best Event Hosts.
Also hailed as winner in the Aliw Awards as Best Performer in Hotels, Music Lounges and Bar is this year's winner of the Voice of the Philippines Michael "Mitoy" Yonting together with his Draybers Band.
