Seniors press legislations to uplift sector, community-A A +A

This adage best describes the display of wisdom and tireless commitment of Baguio's Senior Citizen Officials for A Day during Monday’s City Council Session as they passed 32 resolutions aimed to improve their sector and their community.
Scofad Vice Mayor Romeo Umali presided over the session participated by 12 Scofad councilors who took turns in passing resolutions related to the elderly, education, environment and public safety.
Scofad Councilor Sonia Mina moved for the provision of first aid kits in wellness areas of barangays for senior citizens as well as provision of chairs for senior citizens, pregnant women and Persons with Disabilities in city drugstores.
Scofad Councilor Eduardo Reyes proposed for the provision of additional closed-circuit television in every barangay while Scofad Councilor Guia Cabanban proposed for the repair of the Senior Citizen Center in Barangay Salud Mitra and the construction of a daycare center at Padre Burgos Senior Citizen center.
Cabanban also moved for the resolution supporting the total abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund.
Scofad Councilor Alberto Sabino called on the Office of the City Mayor to intensify the trainings of senior citizens and other sectors in establishing credit cooperatives or microfinancing in the barangays.
Scofad Councilor Fidel Oyan, meanwhile, filed a resolution mandating city government employees to attend barangay assemblies while Scofad Councilor Aguiles de Jesus requested the Baguio City Market Authority to sustain clearing operations at the public market.
Former city employee Eduardo Gamayon who also became Scofad Councilor requested for the placing of footsteps in public utility jeepneys while Scofad Councilor Alexis Ines sought for the funding of instructional materials in schools.
Scofad Councilor Virginia Valencia called for additional support for the city’s athletes and the placing of additional blue pedestrian lanes while Scofad Councilor Elizabeth Huliganga moved for the conduct of barangay sports fests and earthquake drills in schools. Scofad Generosa Carbonell passed resolutions for the planting of trees in barangaysand the sourcing of funds for a residential health facility for the elderly.
The proposal of Scofad Councilor Flora Balaba for additional benefits to city employees, meanwhile, was referred to the City Council for proper action while Scofad Councilor Hrothgar Mori called for police visibility in schools and the adjustment of the school curricula for the Department of Education.
Scofad Councilor Policarpio Lansigan, meanwhile, proposed for resolutions on infrastructure projects such as the conduct of a feasibility study for a skyway in Lower Magsaysay Road and road improvements in Saint Joseph Village barangay which was also referred for appropriate action to the City Council.
Also taking important positions in City Hall last Monday were Scofad Isaias Barongan who took over the post of Representative Nicasio Aliping Jr. and Scofad Adorado De Guzman who took over the post of Mayor Mauricio Domogan as part of the Elderly Month celebrations this October.
