Peaceful polls seen in Benguet-A A +A

La Trinidad, Benguet -- Elections in the province is seen to be peaceful.
Police attributed the forecast to the culture of sportsmanship and political maturity of the people as presented in a meeting with stakeholders last week.
Police will be coordinating the setup of the Provincial Election Monitoring Action Center (PEMAC) and the Municipal Election Monitoring Action Centers (MEMACs) in all municipalities of the province.
A Barangay Congress was conducted September and was attended by 650 participants from the Barangay Chairmen, Chief Tanods, BPOC members from the 140 barangays with the agenda of preparation of a peaceful, secure, and fair election in the province.
Deployment of over 151 personnel for all 13 municipalities has also been requested to augment existing forces in the province.
A close monitoring of insurgency movements in the area is being done to prevent extortion activities to candidates.
In Benguet, there have been sightings of elements of the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army/National Democratic Front (CPP/NPA/NDF) in some municipalities of the province.
Municipalities in the province located at the tri-boundaries of Ilocos Sur and La Union, will be given additional troops to ensure safe and peaceful elections.
Meanwhile the "Padyak, Lakad, Takbo para sa Maayos at Mapayapang Barangay Eleksyon 2013 and signing of a peace covenant on will commence on October 20 to gather local government units as well as candidates to pledge for a clean election.
The Official Ballots will be distributed early to the 21 identified far flung polling centers of the province with Area Supervisors dispatched to their assigned areas before October 27.
Police will secure the canvassing of votes at the polling precincts, provide security for the transport of election paraphernalia as well as provide security until the proclamation of the winning candidates and during the oath taking ceremonies.
