LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) president and Councilor Brenden Kim Quintos got the backing of the entire legislative body to pass the Youth Code before he steps down on November 30.
In a special meeting last week, Quintos presented the proposed Youth Code to his peers, imploring for help to have it passed and leave a legacy for the youth of this town.
Quintos said the entire body pitched in to become co-authors of the Youth Code, which will go through fine tuning before it is passed in second and final reading, and with high hopes for its third reading before it becomes a law.
He said there are minor corrections of the proposed youth code, which colleague Councilor Roderick Awingan has pledged to put into place before the ordinance is presented anew to the august body.
Quitnos asked the help of his collogues in the crafting and fast-tracking of the Code before his last days in office as SK Federation president in a bid to assure the passing of the La Trinidad Youth Code.
He explained the importance to pass this code, as there will be no voice of the youth after November 30, when all the SK’s step down nationwide.
There will also be no appointment SK representatives. Meanwhile, the 10-percent fund in the next coming years will be used by the barangay for youth programs.
The youth code provides comprehensive policies for the youth and contains the rights of the youth in the municipality, both social and political, assuring concerns of the youth here will be heard even if there is a vacancy in the SK post.
The youth code will also assure funding for projects as well as creation of the La Trinidad Council for Youth Development.
The creation of the La Trinidad Council for Youth Development will be created to formulate plans to promote the development and uphold the rights of the youth of the municipality.
Present during the special meeting were councilors Estrella Adeban, Joey Marrero, Boyet Tereng and ABC president and Councilor Teddy Quintos.
