THE Baguio City Police Office will be fielding additional troops ensure the security of tourists and residents expected during the Christmas Day and New Year's Day holidays.
Baguio City Police Office director Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay Jr. conducted surprise inspections in bus terminals and parks Friday to ensure the safety of passengers and park goers and to give away Christmas cards that bear important reminders and contact numbers from law enforcers.
At least 14 additional police men will be fielded in tourists spots in the city while mobile patrol teams will be going around the city to ensure public order during the holidays, Cambay said.
For those going home to the provinces for the holidays, the BCPO chief advised homeowners to secure their properties and alert trusted neighbors to once in a while look into their properties while they are gone.
Despite the city’s police lack in manpower, he said augmentation teams from Barangay peacekeepers are also valuable in preventing street crimes.
He stressed police visibility remains as an important deterrent against street crimes such as pickpocket and snatching that usually spike during the Christmas season.
